July 16, 2010 NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT CITY OF BURLINGTON AND DIKE DISTRICT #12 Notice of Availability of the Final Environmental Impact Statement on the proposal to adopt a strategic program for comprehensive flood hazard mitigation in the Burlington urban area and adjacent land with a range of structural and non-structural components. This is a phased review pursuant to WAC 197-11-060(5). Contact the Planning Department at 360-755-9717, e-mail at bplanning@ci.burlington.wa.us if you want a hard copy ($30) or a CD ($5) of the report. References for Final EIS are available on the CD at the Burlington Planning Department, $5.00. SHORELINE MASTER PROGRAM - Now is the time to review and comment on the draft City of Burlington Shoreline Analysis Report and Shoreline Master Program. This is the first draft and your comments are very important to make sure that the program is moving in the right direction and that all issues are identified and discussed. Burlington's shorelines include the land within 200 feet of the water side toe of the levees and the Gages Slough wetlands. Comments will be accepted through the end of June, and a final proposal will be presented after review of comments. Staff is still working on the photo inventory and is very interested in your suggestions on practical restoration and habitat improvement projects, considering the serious constraints along the Skagit River because of levees that provide critical flood protection. There are exciting opportunities for improving public access and nonmotorized connections in and around the area, that include the Gages Slough corridor and the Skagit River shorelines.
