Burlington's Greenhills Memorial Cemetery on Gardner Road is one of the City's most historic sites. Around the turn of the century the Burlington Cemetery was organized by the Maccabee Lodge. Later the management was taken over by the Ladies of the Maccabees. In 1924, the Burlington Cemetery Association was incorporated and continued with its care and maintenance. Acquisition of the Cemetery was made by the City at the request of the Board of the Burlington Cemetery Association. It was their desire that the City assume the responsibility of the care, development, maintenance and operation of the Cemetery which contains approximately 15 acres. The transfer to the City was made August 14, 1954. The City is mindful of its responsibility to care for and maintain the cemetery in a manner that will bring beauty, dignity and comfort to all who visit. A Perpetual Care Fund was set up and is invested only in securities authorized by the State of Washington. The principal of this fund must remain fixed, but the interest may be used for care and maintenance. All lots sold include Perpetual Care; 25% of the this price is placed into a Perpetual Care Fund for this purpose. Lots may be purchased at City Hall. Appointments are not needed. Please call (360) 755-0531 for more information.
