Engineering This department is located at 833 South Spruce Street, 2nd Floor. There is currently a Director of Public Works and an Assistant Director, an Engineering Technician and a Administrative Specialist (half-time). The purpose of the Engineering Department is to provide technical support for the other departments and to provide assistance with private project developments and city financed projects. The department plan reviews all the site plans that are built in Burlington for the parking lot areas and any of the street improvements and utility improvements. They are also responsible for the capital facilities projects that the City Council budgets for future improvements including streets, sewers, pump stations, sidewalks, and traffic signals. The department also provides assistance to the outdoor departments that have technical needs. Another function of the department is to keep all of the engineering records for the City which includes drawings of the different subdivisions, commercial entities, and street and sewer projects.
