The purpose of the Buildings and Grounds Department is to clean and maintain all of all the city buildings: City Hall, Fire Hall, Public Safety building, Community Center, the Library, Parks and Recreation office (old City Hall), and the Street and Sewer Department facilities.
This department is comprised of one supervisor, one Utility I, four custodial staff, and a work crew manager.
Community service workers are supervised to help maintain the different facilities that the department is responsible for. Along with maintaining the buildings, other responsibilities involve the landscaping and irrigation around buildings and right-of-ways on north Burlington Boulevard and Nevitt Road including planting flowers and some mowing along with vegetation trimming.
This department is also responsible for the brush and tree limb recycling center located at 951 Section Street. This facility allows residents in Burlington to bring small branches and brush in the summer and fall to be properly processed into usable compost. This facility is maintained by a punch card system that residents can purchase at Burlington City Hall for $20 allowing them 20/one dollar punches, $1 punch for one garbage can of tree limbs or $5 for a pickup load.
