The City of Burlington's Building Department regulates the construction of public and private structures from the basic residential storage shed to the most complex commercial buildings.  As mandated by the State of Washington, the City of Burlington has adopted, by ordinance, the International Building Codes, along with specific state amendments. Through the standards contained in these codes the Building Department performs plan review and inspection services to ensure that buildings that are constructed and occupied by its citizens are safe, and comply with all fire, life and safety requirements.
