On February 1, 1911, a Reading Room opened in the Knutzen building of Burlington--the city's first effort towards a public library. One hundred years of providing information to people, and adapting to the best ways to do that, now that is definitely something to celebrate! Read this proclamation. On February 1, 2011 we're kicking off a five-year-long centennial celebration. Read more about the history of libraries in Burlington. The celebration will end with an event to commemorate the dedication of the original Carnegie Library which opened in September of 1916.
