top Meeting Room Policy The Burlington Public Library has meeting rooms available, at no charge, for use by non-profit community groups for informational, educational, or cultural meetings and programs when not needed for Library or City purposes. Go to Room Reservation page
Use of a library meeting room does not imply endorsement by the library staff or Trustees of the goals or ideas of the sponsoring group holding the meeting or the viewpoints presented.
In general, the Board adopts Article 6 of the Library Bill of Rights that states:
"Libraries which make exhibit space and meeting rooms available to the public they serve should make such facilities available on an equitable basis, regardless of the beliefs or affiliations of individuals or groups requesting their use."
The Library Board encourages the use of the library meeting rooms by nonprofit community groups and government agencies as long as this use does not interfere with the normal functions of the library. All meetings shall be open to the public. No admission fee may be charged. No materials, goods or services shall be sold for private profit or gain, with the exception of Library, Friends of the Library or Library Foundation sponsored programs.
The Library reserves the right to deny applications for use based on the availability of space, the requested frequency of use, and/or the potential for disruption of library service.

Meeting Room Rules
The library meeting rooms are only to be used during library open hours. Groups must vacate the room at least ten minutes before the building is closed.
The meeting room must be restored to its original clean condition. Users agree to accept financial responsibility for all damages caused to the building, furnishings and/or equipment beyond normal wear. Users must not open cabinets nor disturb any materials within them.
Reservations for the use of a meeting room shall be on a first-come first-served basis. Reservations shall be made in advance of the planned meeting or event using the Meeting Room Application form (available at the Library). Reservations may be made up to 6 months in advance of the event. On occasion, Library needs take precedence over a previously scheduled meeting, in which case the scheduling group will be notified as far in advance as possible.
The person signing the Meeting Room Application form must be an adult over 18 years of age. This person is considered the responsible party for any damages caused while their group is using the meeting room.
Groups may not state or imply that the Library sponsors or endorses their organization, the meeting, or the viewpoints presented at the meeting.
Children must be supervised at all times. The Library is not responsible for children left unattended in the Library while their parent or guardian is in a meeting in a Library Meeting Room.
Unlawful activity shall not be permitted in any library Meeting Room and such activity shall be a basis to deny future use of the room by groups or individuals violating this policy.
Meetings may be terminated if they are disruptive to library services.
Users are requested to bring their own easels, equipment, and other materials.
Smoking and/or the use of alcohol is not allowed in the Burlington Public Library (and is therefore not permitted in the library's meeting rooms).
Storage of materials before or after the meeting is prohibited. The library is not responsible for articles left on the premises after a meeting.

top Exam Proctoring Policy Distance Learning and Correspondence Courses are increasingly popular methods of obtaining advanced education, and are often the only way citizens can complete specialized programs of study locally and in a cost-effective manner. The Burlington Public Library agrees to cooperate with institutions of higher learning in providing exam proctoring services as a courtesy to area residents to support their lifelong learning goals. This service is subject to the availability of authorized staff.
Arrangements should be made with a library staff member at least one week in advance. Examinations should be taken during library operating hours. It may be possible to schedule a test before 11:00 a.m., at the discretion of the staff member who will serve as proctor.
All test taking requirements must be received from the issuing educational institution before any tests are taken. Students must bring photo identification to present to the proctor at test time.
If completed examinations and accompanying materials need to be faxed by the Library, a fax processing fee of $5 for up to 10 pages, 50 cents for each additional page, will be charged. If materials need to be mailed by the Library, the student will be responsible for the cost of adequate postage.
The Burlington Public Library does not charge fees for the staff time required to proctor examinations, but greatly appreciates donations in support of the Library's collections and services.
